Marcus joined CIVC in 1988 and continues to provide counsel in areas such as strategy and new investments. Marcus shared overall strategic and operating responsibility for CIVC Partners for Funds I-IV. Marcus was instrumental in the founding of CIVC Partners LP in 1998 when the partners spun out of Bank of America to establish CIVC as an independent partner-owned private equity firm. He is currently a Fellow at the Distinguished Career Institute at Stanford University. Marcus was formerly a director of Medical Knowledge Group, SRDS, and Transwestern Publishing, in addition to others. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UCLA, where he graduated magna cum laude and was elected Phi Beta Kappa, and a Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
